The Sydney Olympic Games put Homebush on the map, and interest in residential pockets around the Olympic site continues unabated.

The northern part of the Homebush Bay peninsula was formally renamed Wentworth Point in 2009 and a flurry of activity has followed as units go up and buyers move in.

One that has sparked huge interest is The Broadwater, Wentworth Point Marinas, a joint venture between developers Billbergia and AMP Capital.

The development is between Parramatta River and the bushland of Olympic Park.

Stage one has only eight properties left for sale and stage two is over 50 percent sold, according to Billbergia operations and marketing manager John Fitzgerald.

‘‘We have seen a spike in interest, especially when the final construction revealed the unique architectural external finish of the first stage,’’ he says.

The trend has been for one-bedroom apartments to be snapped up by first-time buyers and investors; two-bedroom apartments by investors; and three-bedroom apartments by owner-occupiers.

Broadwater has an active approach to the environment, focusing on energy, water and heating-efficient design which will help control future energy costs.

Apartments are designed to maximise light and airflow and there is double glazing on all windows and doors to reducing exterior noise and help heating and cooling. All apartments are air-conditioned.

The kitchen is a focal point of the apartments with Ilve appliances and thickened 40mm benchtops with 20mm splashbacks. German-manufactured soft-close drawers and doors are included as standard and European-styled taps and accessories feature throughout. All apartments have a combination Samsung washer-dryer.

A SUBURB TRANSFORMED

Wentworth Point Marinas is part of the proposed transformation of the suburb’s harbourside foreshore where a prominent 200-berth marina, rowing club, restaurants, boutique shops as well as a new primary school will be constructed.

A bridge linking Wentworth Point to Rhodes has been proposed to complement the ferry and bus services.

The prime waterside location, transport links — it is on a main rail link to the CBD and has good access by road via Olympic Drive to the M4 and Victoria Rd — and proximity to Rhodes Shopping Centre, cinema, cafes and restaurants as well as waterside walkways along Homebush Bay make it a desirable place to live.
