The all-inclusive Billbergia Bennelong Bridge Run (BBBRun) returned to Wentworth Point last weekend, after an 18-month absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Event Director, Stephanie Lebeau of True Sports Events was delighted the event was finally back.

“The past 2 years have been a challenge for many in our community, so it was great to see people get out and have fun,” Mrs Lebeau said.

Established 6 years ago with the support of event sponsor Billbergia, the BBBRun is a unique community event where people feel they belong.

In addition to being for serious athletes, the real mission is for everyone to have an opportunity to participate, no matter their ability, and despite the less than ideal weather, more than 600 people turned out to mark its return.

Starting in the Wentworth Point town centre and taking in Bennelong Bridge, the BBBRun includes a 10km race for serious and beginners runners, along with a 7 km wheelchair race, a 2 km race walk; 500m frame running event-for people with impaired balance, and a 2km family fun run.

“It takes a whole village to create an event like this, but it’s worth the effort”, Mrs Lebeau said.

“The BBBRun is rewarding in so many ways. From the energy of the volunteers to the cheering smiley faces and thumbs up at the finish line”.

The most rewarding moment of the BBBRun 2022 was at the finish line – when Emily, 9 years of age, was steering her Framerunner with so much confidence,  cheered on by a crowd over the last 50 meters. She was smiling and waving at everyone, almost letting her frame runner go, but then she kept going and crossed the finish line with a big grin on her face.”

Managing Director of the Billbergia Group, Mr John Kinsella AM, said Billbergia is proud to continue its sponsorship of the BBBRun. “We’ve been involved since the event’s inception, and we’re committed to supporting events that promote a sense of community and bring people at Wentworth Point together”.
