The Urban Taskforce Executive Committee Chair, David Ghannoum, today announced the 2024 Property Person of the Year: John Kinsella AM, Managing Director and founder of Billbergia.
“Billbergia has had an outstanding year, and the entire team thoroughly deserves this award. I congratulate John Kinsella for everything he has achieved since he founded the company with his brother William (Bill) in 1988,” David Ghannoum said.
“Property Person of the Year is a very special award which recognises an industry leader who has been nominated and supported by property construction and development sector peers.
“John has always been a humble man and was keen for the award to be shared with his family, brother Bill and son Joseph, along with Rick Graf and the entire executive team at Billbergia,” Mr Ghannoum said.
Urban Taskforce Chief Executive, Tom Forrest said that John Kinsella has been recognised by the Property sector for being an outstanding contributor over the last 36 years, taking on ambitious place-making projects that transform entire suburbs of Sydney.
“Under the leadership of the Kinsella family, Billbergia has completed 2,500 new apartments in the past three years and has a forward pipeline of over 10,000 apartments on land it already owns.
“Under John and Bill’s leadership, Billbergia has been an industry leader on ESG performance, delivering buildings that exceed National Construction Code standards and communities with amenity that leads the ‘place-making’ agenda.
“They have built-up high-quality, independently accredited Environment Management Systems and have been awarded iCIRT “trustworthy developer” accreditation,” Mr Forrest said.
Billbergia has three partnerships with Homes NSW, delivering mixed tenure projects with social, affordable, and market housing providing new homes for over 3,500 residents at existing railway stations.
Urban Taskforce Founding Director and Hon. Secretary Treasurer, David Tanevski, said that Billbergia had been at the centre of transforming the Rhodes and Wentworth Point peninsulas, creating entire suburbs that have been linked by a privately funded river bridge.
“John Kinsella and his team have been at the forefront of utilising innovative solutions to create high density mixed uses precincts that are great places to live, work and play.
“As an integrated property development group, Billbergia’s footprint of quality can be seen across Greater Sydney and beyond.
“Billbergia has been a front runner for Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Awards, recently winning Commercial Development of the Year in 2024 for 88 Walker, North Sydney. In 2023, they won the Affordable Residential Development of the Year award for Lidcombe Rise Stage 1,” Mr Tanevski said.
John Kinsella and his team at Billbergia are worthy winners of the 2024, Urban Taskforce Property Person of the Year.
The award will be celebrated with a charity fundraiser gala dinner on 27th November.
